چکیده

The flow pulsations in the dog's descending aorta were recorded with a noncannulating squarewave electromagnetic flowmeter and found to be at considerable variance with previously published curves. The validity of the square-wave electromagnetic flows was established by tests of the instrument's adequacy and by comparison with the simultaneously recorded differential pressures. In the genesis of the aortic flow pulse, inertia is dominant and resistance secondary, so that flow is related to the differential pressure pulse mainly through acceleration.

Estimation of Aortic Regurgitation by Diastolic Pulse Wave Analysis

To test the hypothesis that the fall in supravalvular aortic diastolic pressure is relative to the severity of the regurgitant flow in aortic regurgitation, 27 patients with isolated aortic regurgitation, 23 patients with combined aortic regurgitation and stenosis, and 15 normal subjects were studied. Diastolic pulse pressure (pressure at the dicrotic notch minus pressure at end diastole) and t...

Ascending aorta backward flow parameters estimated from phase-contrast cardiovascular magnetic resonance: new indices of vascular aging

Methods One hundred healthy subjects (50 women, mean age: 40 ±15 years (19-79 years) were studied. Aortic stiffness (aortic arch pulse wave velocity PWVAO, AA distensibility), aortic arch geometry (AA diameter and arch length) and parameters related to AA global backward and forward flows (volume, flow rate peak, and onset time) were estimated from CMR. Carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWVC...

Aortic Blood Flow Reversal Determines Renal Function: Potential Explanation for Renal Dysfunction Caused by Aortic Stiffening in Hypertension.

Aortic stiffness determines the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and predicts the progressive decline of the GFR. However, the underlying pathophysiological mechanism remains obscure. Recent evidence has shown a close link between aortic stiffness and the bidirectional (systolic forward and early diastolic reverse) flow characteristics. We hypothesized that the aortic stiffening-induced renal d...

Central pulse pressure and aortic stiffness determine renal hemodynamics: pathophysiological implication for microalbuminuria in hypertension.

A significant link has been reported between aortic stiffening and renal microvascular damage, but the underlying mechanism remains poorly understood. We hypothesized that alterations in central and renal hemodynamics are responsible for this link. In 133 patients with hypertension, pressure waveforms were recorded on the radial, carotid, femoral, and dorsalis pedis arteries with applanation to...

Aortic diameter and pressure-flow sequence identify mechanism of blood flow during external chest compression in dogs.

Aortic flow and pressure relations and aortic diameter were examined during sinus rhythm, internal cardiac massage, vest cardiopulmonary resuscitation, conventional manual cardiopulmonary resuscitation and high impulse manual cardiopulmonary resuscitation in 14 anesthetized large dogs. During sinus rhythm and during internal cardiac massage, ascending aortic flow and pressure increased simultan...
